Carpet binding and whipping for carpet shops and fitters
If you sell or fit carpet but don't bind or whip in-house, we can finish it for you. Send us the carpet with the size and the edge you want. It's cut and finished by hand in our Melksham workshop and goes back to you ready for your customer. We already do this for carpet shops and flooring businesses, and we take trade work from anywhere in the UK. Call Eleanor on 07921 671108.

What we do for the trade
Binding and taping
A tape is stitched all the way round the cut edge to give a bordered finish. We have hundreds of tapes: cotton and herringbone, patterned tapes, and suede or leather when a customer wants something different. More on the finishes in carpet binding and whipping.
Whipping
Yarn is wrapped tightly over the edge for a softer, traditional finish. We whip rugs and runners in British wool, and doormats in hard-wearing outdoor yarn.
Bordered stair runners
Made to your customer's measurements, taped or whipped, from new carpet or from suitable carpet they already have. Tape is very much the fashion on stairs at the moment. Whipping is the one to pick when the carpet itself should be the star. See stair runners.
Hallway runners to any length
Ready-made runners usually come in 2m to 4m lengths, which leaves a long hall half covered. We cut to the exact length and width of the hall. The only limit is the size of the piece, and if it's big enough one piece can make two runners, say one for the hall and one for the landing. See hallway runners.
Rugs from a customer's offcuts
When a fitting leaves a good piece over, we can turn it into a rug, a runner or a set of mats. Any size or shape works, circles and cut-outs included. It gives you something extra to offer the customer instead of a trip to the skip. See rugs from your carpet.
Re-edging
If the tape on a rug has come loose or worn through, we can often take the old edge off and finish it again.
We finish all types of carpet. Condition matters more than type: badly worn carpet or a damaged backing may not give a lasting result, so send a photo if you're unsure about a piece.
How it works
- Tell us about the job. Ring Eleanor, or use the enquiry form and choose "Trade or commercial work". Rough sizes, the edge you want and a photo of the carpet are enough to start.
- Choose the edge. We can send tape samples so you or your customer can see them against the carpet before anything is cut.
- Get the carpet to us. Locally, in Bath, Trowbridge, Westbury, Chippenham and West Wiltshire, ask about collection. From further away, call Eleanor and she'll talk you through getting your carpet to us and back.
- We cut and finish it by hand in our Melksham workshop.
- It comes back finished, ready to go down.
We don't publish a price list, because every piece is quoted on its size, the edge and any cutting to a new shape. Send rough sizes and a photo and we'll come back with a price.
Why carpet shops use us
Eleanor runs Wiltshire Rugs, so you deal with the person who runs the workshop, and every piece is handled with care.
You can offer what a ready-made range can't: a runner cut to the full length of a long hall, a bordered stair runner in the tape your customer picked, or a round rug from the carpet that's just gone down in their lounge.
"We have been using Wiltshire Rugs for various rug and runner work over the last 18 months. The quality of the finishing is consistently excellent and everything is returned looking professionally finished and ready for our customers. Eleanor is reliable, helpful and always takes great care with the work."
TG, carpet shop client
We're a small independent workshop, so for a large order it's best to ring Eleanor first and agree the details.
Trade questions
Anything else, just ask. Eleanor is happy to talk through a job before you send anything.
Do you take trade work from outside Wiltshire?
Yes. We work with customers anywhere in the UK. Call Eleanor on 07921 671108 and she'll talk you through getting the carpet to us and back.
What do you charge the trade?
Each piece is quoted on its size, the edge and any cutting, so send rough sizes and a photo of the carpet for a price.
Can my customer see the tape before choosing?
Yes. We can send tape samples so you or your customer can see them against the carpet.
What carpet can you finish?
All types. Condition matters more than type: badly worn carpet or a damaged backing may not give a lasting result, so send a photo if you're unsure.
Can you re-edge a rug for one of our customers?
Often, yes. If the old tape has come loose or worn through, we can take it off and finish the edge again with new tape or whipping.
